  • Breath

    Drink in the air --
    Gasp, gasp, gulp, breathe,
Feel the grass that tickles your ankles
The smooth of sweat that roll down your cheeks
The breeze that passes across your skin,
Sweeping away your tension and thoughts
'Til your toes root into the soil
And the rustle of leaves and sundrops matches the rhythm of your heart.

    Lie down, lie down,
Feel the earth that cushions your head,
The chorus of life washing over and over
Rolling in waves like the quietest ocean.
    I hear you, fellow sufferer,
Breathe beside me, breathe so we match,
Our lungs are tired and I feel my heartbeat inside me
My toes, my temples, my stomach pulsing
A drum that pounds the beat of strength
Of barriers crossed, of battlements breached.

My comrade, my warrior, lie here with me
That we may enjoy this next breath in this life.

  • In the Quiet of the Morning

    The quiet of the morning
In the hush that precedes the dawn
A coat of silence that covers the world for one moment
As the light of the day peeks over the world.

The fingers of fog brush my shoulders
And my jacket hugs me tighter
Shutting out the cold of the world
While my breath forms a cloud of life that parts from my lips
A flurry of crystals and wonder that glints
The early morning dew a rainbow that depicts
    The colors of the day.

Eyes widen and rays of young sunlight light my face
    A soft baby warm as the light tentatively reaches its arms towards my being;
I am a human who draws the light
I am a human who watches the sunrise.

  • Can I

    Can I tell you
    Can I know you
Can I laugh with you and cry with you
Can I see you can I look at you
    Can I look inside?

    Can I touch you
    Can I hug you
Can I pat your head and rub your shoulder
Can I carefully brush your cheek
    Can I hold your hand
Can I brush your hair behind your ear
    Can I kiss you?

Can I be the shoulder you lean on
Can I cover you with a blanket when you're sick
Can I make you soup when you've had a long day
Can I compliment you when I know you need it
Can I tell you a truth that will make you cry
Can I ask you a question you will want to answer
Can I lie on your lap when I need to rest
Can I cuddle you when it's cold outside
Can I go with you through the bad times and the good times
    Can I be with you?

    Can I show you
    Can I make you understand
    Can I perform a miracle
Can I make your insides fuzzy with happiness
    Can I love you?

  • Reverberation

    A dormant face,
    Peaceful and loved,
Even as you toss and turn in your strange dreams
    Of who, of what,
    I wonder?

    The vulnerability and innocence
    Of a sleeping face
Strums a deep bass string from deep within your humanity
A heartstring unplucked, untouched, for so long.

Why must you disturb my peace,
For it is so painful while this note rings true
    Though I know deep within
That it will be even more unbearable
If the sweet richness of this music ceases.

Even as I resist the urge to touch you,
Caress you and reassure you that I will protect you,
That you are mine as long as I am yours.
    But am I?

For now, I watch in silence,
Waiting for you to recognize this call from deep within the chasm of my chest
As this music reverberates in my every sinew and cell.
    Your music.

  • The Rats and Rollercoasters

    The rats and rollercoasters
    That tumble down their hills
The waxy feet a prying tool
And grease and oil a luxury
    That fits gears into place.

    The puzzle pieces scattered about
That fit together like broken blocks
    A child's play and manticore
Awaiting death and life in one.

    Candy grows inside the flowers
Picked and grown and jelly sweet
For all to share in this wonderful, warm,
    Time together we must share.
